Versace / Capri Group
Italian luxury brand Versace, owned by U.S. luxury group Capri, has announced the appointment of Dario Vitale as its new Chief Creative Officer, effective April 1, 2025. He succeeds Donatella Versace, who turns 70 this year.
Versace stated that Dario Vitale’s appointment signifies the brand’s commitment to introducing a fresh perspective while fully respecting its heritage and growth potential. Dario Vitale previously served as Design and Image Director at Miu Miu, a brand under Prada Group.
Since the tragic passing of Versace’s founder, Gianni Versace, in 1997, his sister Donatella Versace has been the creative force behind the brand. Moving forward, Donatella Versace will continue to serve as Chief Brand Ambassador, focusing on Versace’s philanthropic efforts and promoting the brand globally.
“In nearly three decades of creative leadership, Donatella’s passion and vision have played a pivotal role in making Versace a leading luxury house. Her unwavering commitment to uncompromising creativity has elevated Versace beyond just a brand or a company—it has become a source of inspiration for everyone working at Versace,” the brand stated in its press release.
Donatella Versace expressed her enthusiasm for the transition, saying she is excited to see Versace continue to evolve under Dario’s leadership while paying homage to the legacy established by her brother, Gianni Versace.
Versace CEO Emmanuel Gintzburger commented: “The company is ready to embrace a new chapter. We have full confidence in Donatella’s enduring influence and in Dario’s unique talent to drive the brand forward.”
According to industry sources, Prada Group is currently in advanced negotiations with Capri Group regarding the acquisition of Versace.
