Singapore’s Retail Sales Decline by 0.6% in June

According to data from the Singapore Department of Statistics, total retail sales in June amounted to SGD 3.8 billion, representing a 0.6% year-on-year decline. Online sales contributed approximately 12.1% of total retail sales. After seasonal adjustments, there was a 3.7% month-on-month decline.

Excluding automobiles, retail sales in June saw a 3.1% year-on-year decrease, amounting to SGD 3.3 billion, with online sales contributing about 14.1%. After seasonal adjustments, there was a 2.9% month-on-month decline.

In June, automobile sales grew by 19.5% year-on-year. The performance of other major categories is as follows:

  • Department store sales decreased by 5.4%
  • Supermarket and hypermarket sales increased by 1.6%
  • Mini-mart and convenience store sales decreased by 7.1%
  • Food and alcohol sales increased by 5.3%
  • Petrol station sales increased by 0.4%
  • Cosmetics, toiletries, and medical goods sales increased by 0.9%
  • Apparel and footwear sales decreased by 10.1%
  • Furniture and household equipment sales decreased by 1.9%
  • Recreational goods sales decreased by 6.7%
  • Watches and jewelry sales decreased by 1.7%
  • Computer and telecommunications equipment sales decreased by 5.7%
  • Optical goods and books sales decreased by 12.5%
  • Other sales decreased by 3.8%
