To celebrate its 100th anniversary, the Italian luxury brand Loro Piana will host its first-ever exhibition at the Pudong Art Museum in Shanghai from March 22 to May 5, 2025.
This event is part of the brand’s global centennial celebrations. Last month, Loro Piana also launched Master of Fibres, a book written by Nicholas Foulkes and published by Assouline.
Author, historian, and journalist Nicholas Foulkes chronicles the brand’s significant milestones in this book, which draws on extensive interviews with the Loro Piana family and a collection of facts, stories, photographs, and historical documents. The book details how Loro Piana evolved from a wool trading company into its current stature while celebrating Italian expertise and craftsmanship.
The upcoming exhibition will take place at the Pudong Art Museum (MAP), designed by renowned French architect and Pritzker Prize laureate Jean Nouvel’s AJN firm. Open to the public since 2021, this marks the museum’s first collaboration with a luxury brand for a joint exhibition.
Curated by Judith Clark, this retrospective exhibition will offer an immersive exploration of Loro Piana’s family history and legacy. Through captivating archival imagery, artworks, and specially commissioned clothing, it will showcase the brand’s artisanal mastery. The exhibition also promises a multi-sensory experience, spotlighting the extraordinary world of Loro Piana’s fabrics, signature designs, and iconic elements through tactile and sensory engagement.
China has played a pivotal role in Loro Piana’s development, dating back decades to the brand’s journey with cashmere. It has built invaluable and genuine partnerships in the region. With this exhibition, Loro Piana pays tribute to the origins of its craftsmanship chain in the Chinese Mainland, celebrating its enduring collaboration with herders and communities to preserve the cherished traditions of cashmere.
