Personnel Updates | Burberry Appoints COO and Chief Customer Officer, Brioni Creative Director Steps Down

British luxury brand Burberry has announced two executive appointments:

  • Matteo Calonaci has been named Chief Operating Officer and Chief Supply Chain Officer. He will succeed current Supply Chain and Industrial Officer Klaus Bierbrauer, who will step down after the upcoming Winter fashion show and a transition period.

  • Johnattan Leon has been appointed Chief Customer Officer.

Both executives will join Burberry’s Executive Committee.

Matteo Calonaci joined Burberry in 2020 and has held several roles, including Vice President of Customer and Supply Chain Strategy, Vice President of Supply Chain, and Senior Vice President of Transformation and Strategy. He began his career at Procter & Gamble, and later worked at YOOX NET-A-PORTER Group and Boston Consulting Group. Calonaci holds an MBA from London Business School.

Johnattan Leon joined Burberry in 2017 and has served as Senior Strategy Manager, Director of Strategy, Vice President of Business Strategy and Outlets, and, most recently, as Senior Vice President and Chief of Staff. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University and began his career at McKinsey & Company.

In their new roles, Calonaci will oversee Supply Chain and Planning, Strategy and Transformation, and Data and Analytics, while Leon will lead Customer, Customer Engagement, Customer Service, and Retail Excellence. He will also oversee Burberry’s Digital, Outlet, and Commercial Operations.

Brioni

Luxury menswear brand Brioni, part of French luxury conglomerate Kering, has officially ended its collaboration with Creative Director Norbert Stumpfl.

An Austrian national, Norbert Stumpfl, joined Brioni in September 2018. During his tenure, he reimagined and redesigned the brand’s formalwear collections, introduced sporty elements into its casual ready-to-wear lines, and significantly expanded its leather accessories and footwear offerings. He also played a key role in developing the brand’s womenswear line.

Prior to Brioni, Stumpfl served as Design Director at Berluti (a Kering brand), as a freelance menswear designer for Louis Vuitton, as a freelance designer for adidas, as Menswear Design Director at Balenciaga, and as Menswear Design Director at Lanvin.

Stumpfl holds a Master’s degree in Menswear Design from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.
