The management changes are intended to preserve the company’s family-led approach. Mario Colombo, a third-generation member of the founding family and former Chairman of the Board, passed away in April this year.
Giulio Colombo and Carlo Colombo were Mario Colombo’s cousins. Both had worked in the family business for many years and previously served alongside Mario Colombo as co-CEOs. Stefano Colombo, Mario Colombo’s eldest son, previously served as Global Sales and Marketing Manager at Colmar.
Mario Colombo & C. Manufacture was founded in Monza, Italy, in 1923 and remains 100% owned by the founding family. The group owns the Colmar brand, whose name is an abbreviation of “Colombo Mario”, and has served as the Italian distributor of French apparel brand LACOSTE since the late 1960s.
The company was founded by Mario Colombo and his wife Irma Colombo, initially producing men’s gaiters and hats before moving into workwear. This marked the beginning of the company’s move into the specialised production of highly weather-resistant padded garments and paved the way for its entry into skiwear. By the 1950s, the company’s ties with the sporting world had deepened further, with Colmar becoming one of the benchmark brands in performance apparel. Its product range expanded beyond skiing into golf, as well as a variety of sports-inspired and urban outerwear.
