On March 1st, the Japanese Sport and Outdoor Group GOLDWIN announced a collaboration with Suzhou Vision Retail Co., Ltd. (SGAR). The partnership entails the establishment of a joint venture in China, tasked with the production and sales of Goldwin brand products. According to the agreement, the joint venture will be founded in April this year in Changshu City, Jiangsu Province, with Goldwin holding a 65% share and SGAR holding 35%.
Goldwin stated that its aim to achieve the long-term vision of “PLAY EARTH 2030” makes the global expansion of the original brand Goldwin a key strategy in its medium-term business strategy. “In the process of global expansion, we focus on the Chinese market, which is also the reason for the establishment of this joint venture. Going forward, Goldwin will utilize SGAR’s network in China to accelerate the opening of stores in the Chinese market and promote business growth.”
Suzhou Vision Retail Co., Ltd. was established on August 2, 2022, with its registered location in the Changshu High-tech Industrial Development Zone. Meiwu Commerce (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. and Baoyan Commerce (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. are shareholders of SGAR.
GOLDWIN INC. originated in 1950 as Tsuzawa Knit Fabric Factory located in Oyabe City, Toyama Prefecture, Japan, and began its transformation into a sports goods manufacturer in 1958. GOLDWIN has since become a giant in the sports and outdoor brands, covering Outdoor Style (mountaineering apparel, nautical apparel, outdoor equipment, and related items), Athletic Style (training apparel, tennis apparel, fitness apparel, swimwear, golf apparel, etc.), Active Style (skiing apparel, snowboard apparel, motorcycle riding apparel, etc.), and other businesses (functional underwear, dustproof clothing, OEM, etc.).
The GOLDWIN Group represents overseas brands in the Japanese market, including The North Face, Helly Hansen, ellesse, macpac, speedo, icebreaker, and others.
In September 2021, the GOLDWIN brand officially entered the Chinese market and subsequently opened its first store in China in Beijing’s Sanlitun in December. Before its entry into China, the GOLDWIN brand had already established direct-operated stores in San Francisco, USA, and Munich, Germany.
