Personnel Changes in Sports and Outdoor Brands: Haglöfs Appoints New CEO; Under Armour’s Chief Consumer Officer Resigns

Swedish outdoor apparel and equipment manufacturer Haglöfs AB has appointed Martin Daniels as its new CEO, effective August.

Martin Daniels brings extensive experience in product development, brand strategy, and trade. Over the past decade, he has held significant roles at Synsam, a leading eyewear retailer in the Nordic region, such as Chief Innovation Officer and Deputy CEO. Prior to this, he worked at Boston Consulting Group (BCG), providing strategic and business development consulting services.

Martin Daniels will succeed Fredrik Ohlsson, and during the transition period, Daniel Tseung and Tom Pitts will serve as Co-CEOs.

Puma

German sports brand Puma has appointed Johan Kuhlo as General Manager for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) markets, effective September 1.

In his new role, Johan Kuhlo will manage the markets in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Oman, reporting directly to Puma’s CEO, Arne Freundt.

Johan Kuhlo joined Puma in 2015 and has held various positions, including Head of Corporate Strategy and Investor Relations. His most recent position was EEMEA Distribution Director, overseeing more than 40 markets in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Simultaneously, Peter Dangl, who has been with the company for 15 years and held several management positions in Sportstyle Apparel, will succeed Johan Kuhlo.

Taner Seyis, who previously managed Puma’s Middle East markets, including the GCC countries, will lead the newly formed Turkey and Levant business, overseeing markets including Turkey, Azerbaijan, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq. He will continue reporting to CEO Arne Freundt.

Under Armour

American sports brand Under Armour announced that Jim Dausch, who served as Chief Consumer Officer for just one year, has departed the company to pursue other opportunities.

Jim Dausch joined Under Armour in July 2023 as Executive Vice President and Chief Consumer Officer. He brought deep experience in leading transformation activities, including digital expansion, global loyalty programs, launching new businesses, and brand development. Before joining Under Armour, he was Global Chief Product and Digital Officer at Marriott International.

Scott

Cycling brand Scott’s U.S. subsidiary, Scott USA, has appointed Matt Heitmann as Chief Marketing Officer.

In his new role, Matt Heitmann will be responsible for enhancing the brand’s visibility and customer engagement in the U.S. market. His main tasks include optimizing the brand’s first-party data strategy, increasing brand awareness and demand to support distributors and dealers, improving personalized brand experiences to reduce customer acquisition costs and inventory holding costs, and driving sales growth of high-margin products, including components and accessories.

Matt Heitmann has over 25 years of experience in business management, brand strategy, digital and growth marketing, customer service, e-commerce, and business operations. He has previously held leadership positions at sports companies, particularly in the cycling sector, such as Signa Sports United, BMC, Canyon Bicycles, USA Cycling, and Backcountry.

Sail Outdoors

Canadian outdoor sports brand Sail Outdoors has appointed Isabelle Lemay as President and CEO, effective September 9.

Isabelle Lemay is a Chartered Professional Accountant with over 20 years of industry experience, having worked for several retail and distribution companies in Quebec and internationally. Her most recent role was Chief Operating Officer and CEO of Legault Group (Mondou).

Headquartered in Quebec, Sail Outdoors is the largest retailer of outdoor, camping, hunting, and fishing gear in Eastern Canada, with over 40 years of history.
